4-Days Classical Tour of Greece

Nafplion – Mycenae – Olympia – Delphi – Meteora

 

Day 1:

The tour begin with a scenic drive via the coastal road from Athens towards the Corinth Canal. We will cross the bridge that connects the mainland with the Peloponnese, crossing over the narrow canal. We continue towards Epidaurus, where you will see the best preserved ancient theater in Greece, famous for its acoustics.

Later, we travel towards the picturesque town of Nafplion that used to be the first capital of Greece. There, you will enjoy your lunch a la carte and have time to wander around its cobblestone paths that will bring you to small shops or to the spectacular promenade by the sea, that offers you a view of the fortress of Mpourtzi and the nearby towns of Argolis.

After Nafplion, we head towards Mycenae that used to be one of the major state cities in ancient years. At Mycenae, you will see the Royal Tombs of King Agamemnon and his family, the immense Cyclopean Walls and Lion’s Gate, as well as the Museum of Mycenae, located in the archaeological site, with important artifacts from the Mycenaean Civilization. In the late afternoon we head towards Olympia. Evening at leisure, overnight.

 

 

Day 2:

After breakfast, our tour starts with a visit to Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Admire the actual site of the Olympic Games that used to be the greatest festival in ancient Greece and remains till today the most prestigious sports event in the world. In the archaeological site, you will see the sanctuary of Zeus and the original stadiums of the Games. Afterwards you will also visit the Archaeological Museum of Olympia and the Museum of the Olympic Games.

Afterwards, we drive towards Delphi through Nafpaktos, passing the largest bridge in Europe and the longest cable supported bridge in the world with a continuous deck of 2,250 meters, that connects the Peloponnese Peninsula with Central Greece. Arrive in Delphi in the late afternoon. Evening at leisure, overnight.

 

 

Day 3:

After breakfast, we start with a visit to the archaeological site of Delphi, the famous sanctuary of God Apollo. Here is where God gave his oracles and would influence all the events and lives of people that came to Delphi to ask for advice.

You will have ample time to visit the Museum of Delphi that houses some of the most impressive statues in Greece, such as the Naxian Sphynx and the bronze Charioteer. You will also visit the Temple of Apollo, and the temple of Athens Pronea in Gymnasium, which is one of the highlights of Delphi. Afterwards we will drive you towards Kalambaka, which is a small town resting at the feet of the Suspended Rocks of Meteora and the Meteora monasteries.

You will be reaching Kalambaka late in the afternoon. Overnight at Kalambaka, evening at leisure, overnight.

 

 

Day 4:

After breakfast, we start our tour to the breathtaking monasteries of Meteora, built on the top of the huge rocks. This is one of the most imposing sites you have ever seen and breaths history and beauty at the same time. Visit two of the sic monasteries still in use. Upon completion of the Monasteries tour, you will have lunch at Kalambaka, before head back to Athens. On the way back you will pass by Thermopylae, the famous Hot Gates, where the Spartans and Persians met in the famous Battle of Thermopylae in 480BC. Arrive in Athens late in the afternoon.
